A Spa-Like Sanctuary in a Loft Conversion

When our client converted their loft into a family bathroom, they wanted the result to feel genuinely luxurious; a calm, spa-like space that made excellent use of an unusual roofline and delivered something far removed from the ordinary. The brief called for a walk-in shower with bespoke handmade stone sink, full stone flooring, and stone skirtings throughout.

With sloping ceilings presenting an immediate layout challenge, every decision had to balance beauty with practicality.

The Material

Namibian White Marble was selected for its soft, luminous quality; a material with enough natural movement to feel alive, but refined enough to complement the serene atmosphere the client was after. Used across the shower walls, floor, and surfaces throughout, it gives the room a cohesive, considered feel from every angle.

The Design

The standout feature of this bathroom is the shower enclosure. Rather than tiling in the conventional sense, the team installed large-format wall panels measuring approximately 2.2 by 1.6 metres inside the shower, eliminating grout lines entirely for a seamless, gallery-like finish. Alongside this, a bespoke sloped stone sink was handcrafted to order, with a concealed waste slot recessed cleanly into the stone for a minimal, uninterrupted surface. There is no visible plug or drain hardware; just a beautifully formed basin that appears to pour water into the wall.

The Challenge

Transporting stone panels of that size up a narrow loft staircase required careful planning and an additional pair of hands on the day. A three-person team managed the installation, maneuvering the large slabs through tight angles without damage to the stone or the surrounding structure.

The Result

The finished bathroom is elegant and calm, making full use of the loft's geometry rather than fighting it. Standing height is maintained throughout, the shower feels open and uncluttered, and the handcrafted sink has become the room's most talked-about feature. The marble ties every surface together into something that feels cohesive and genuinely special.

Installation was completed over four days with a two-man team, with the full project from slab selection to completion taking three weeks.
