Character and Durability in a Cottage Kitchen
Following the success of the fireplace installation, our client returned to Coulon Stone for the kitchen. The existing worktops were dated and tired, and the room was ready for a complete renewal. The brief was for a surface that was durable, characterful, and interesting; something light in tone that would work beautifully alongside a bold mustardy-yellow cabinet colour and complement the new stone floor being laid at the same time.
The Material
Ivory Fantasy Granite was selected for its natural warmth and organic patterning; a stone with enough character to hold its own against a strong cabinet colour without competing with it. Its durability made it a practical choice for a well-used kitchen, while its natural movement gave the space exactly the personality the client was after.
The Design
Careful attention was paid to grain matching throughout, with pattern positioning considered to minimise visible joints and create the impression of a single, continuous surface. The worktop runs the full depth of the two-foot-thick cottage walls to form a deep integrated stone windowsill, a detail that feels entirely in keeping with the building's character.

The Challenge
The combination of the hob cutout and the worktop's size created a structurally vulnerable slab that required careful handling throughout. Manoeuvring it safely into a compact cottage kitchen, without damage to the stone or the surrounding cabinetry, called for a measured, unhurried approach from the installation team.
The Result
The finished kitchen is striking and cohesive. The natural patterning of the granite plays beautifully against the bold cabinet colour, and the deep stone windowsill, matching backsplash, and stone floor tie the whole space together into something that feels both characterful and complete.
From an initial one-hour design consultation to a half-day installation, the full process from brief to finished kitchen took ten days.
